Top Chef & Other Reality Cooking Shows &
    Restaurants

I used to watch Top Chef. The first time they used foie gras I
didn't do anything (shame on me). The second time I wrote
them a letter. Then they used it a third time, and I wrote another
letter and stopped watching the show. Since then, if I see foie
gras or veal used (FYI, or real fur), I send a letter and
immediately stop watching. The one thing I have repeatedly
expressed on this site is that we all must take some
responsibility for the Earth and its creatures, and the only
control we really have is through the choices we make every
    day.

I also will not eat at a restaurant that serves foie gras or veal,
but just the act of not eating there is alone not enough. It is
critical that communication is sent informing them that they have
lost customers because of their cruel(est) choices.

Stop foie gras and veal - one person at a time and it can be
    done!

    To Whom it Concerns,

We wrote to you once before, stating that we enjoyed the show
Top Chef, but were disappointed by the use of the food product
foie gras. We are compassionate people who surely aren’t the
only ones completely turned off by the use of foie gras on the
    show.

Foie gras is a cruelty that is inflicted upon ducks and geese.
These animals endure the pain of having a pipe shoved down
their throats three times daily so that two pounds of grain can
be pumped into their stomachs to produce the diseased “fatty
liver” that some diners consider a delicacy. The frightened,
battered birds often become too sick to walk as they develop
serious liver disease as a result of the force-feeding. They have
been known to try and drag themselves away from the human
handlers with their wings, barely able to move because of their
painful, swollen, engorged bellies, in a desperate attempt to get
away from the torture being inflicted upon them. Ducks and
geese, which naturally form hierarchies and families in the wild,
often tear out their own feathers and even cannibalize each
other as a result of the extreme stress on foie gras farms. Many
birds have died when their stomachs burst from overfeeding,
and many more developed foot infections, kidney necrosis,
spleen and kidney damage, bruised and broken bills, and tumor-
    like lumps in their throats.

Foie gras production has been deemed cruel and inhumane by
experts worldwide, including the European Union’s Scientific
Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare, and the
practice is so cruel it has been banned in many countries.

Please, Bravo – stand up for good and humanity and ban the
use of this awful product on your channel. The world
desperately needs heroes right now, and heroes come in all
shapes and sizes stand up for compassion – BAN FOIE GRAS!

Just as an added suggestion – I think many viewers would enjoy
vegetarian or vegan challenges. Those who care deeply about
the world and about animals are starting to turn away from
animal products, especially those produced with cruelty –
    PLEASE BAN FOIE GRAS!

Thank you so much for your valuable time, we sincerely plead
with you to consider the reality of what we have written.

"Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself
    the sight.” -Albert Schweitzer

    Sincerely,

  Foie Gras and Veal

  Force-Feeding (Foie Gras)
The "delicacy" known as foie gras is one
of the most sickening examples of
cruelty promoted as "luxury." Workers
shove pipes down the birds' throats two
or three times a day and pump
enormous quantities of grain and fat into
the animals' stomachs so that the birds'
livers will become diseased and
bloated. The birds are then killed, and
their livers are sold as foie gras to
diners in fancy restaurants.

Force-feeding ducks and geese to
produce foie gras is so cruel that it is
banned in many places, even whole
countries have banned this outrage.

The bird above, a victim of force-feeding,
obviously choked to death on his own
vomit.

  Veal Factory Farms
Calves raised for veal are confined to
dark, tiny crates in which they are
chained by the neck to keep them
almost completely immobilized so that
their flesh stays tender. The calves are
fed a liquid diet that is low in iron and
has little nutritive value in order to make
their flesh white. This heinous treatment
makes the calves ill, and they frequently
suffer from anemia, diarrhea, and
pneumonia. Frightened, sick, and alone,
they are killed after only a few months.

These are just babies! What is wrong
with people letting this happen
?
