“If beef is your idea of 'real food for real people,' you’d better live real close to a real good hospital.”

    1) Human intake of chemical, antibiotics, growth
    hormones used in agriculture.

    2)  Intake of animal products have definitively been
linked with higher rates of cancer, heart disease,
    diabetes, high cholesterol levels, etc.

    3) The possible health risks of GMOs and effects on
the Earth (tell our government you want testing to
    conclusively prove GMOs are safe!)
    (See GMO page)

    4) Increased incidents of food poisoning and recalls
that have been tainted with E. Coli, Salmonella,
Campylobacter, Listeria, etc (these organisms come
    from farming/animal agriculture).

    5) Feeding unnatural diet to food animals makes them
sick, and leads to an increased risk they will make you
    or your family sick.

    6) The development of disease such as swine flu/avian
    flu.
A recent book, entitled The China study, depicts how America's special interest groups, government entities and scientists have taken
Americans down a deadly path. The study found, “People who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic disease and
people who ate the most plant-based foods were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic disease."

"Catastrophic cases of pollution, sickness, and death are occurring in areas where livestock operations are concentrated. Every
place where the animal factories have located, neighbors have complained of falling sick." (Lang, "U.S. Staggers Under Weight of
Waste From Farm Animals," Scripps Howard News Service, 26 Apr. 1998.)

THE HARVARD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH, ON THE CONSUMPTION OF DAIRY PRODUCTS (2005): “The recommendation to
drink three glasses of low-fat milk or eat three servings of other dairy products per day to prevent osteoporosis is another step in the
wrong direction… Three glasses of low-fat milk add more than 300 calories a day. This is a real issue for the millions of Americans who
are trying to control their weight. What's more, millions of Americans are lactose intolerant, and even small amounts of milk or dairy
products give them stomachaches, gas, or other problems. This recommendation ignores the lack of evidence for a link between
consumption of dairy products and prevention of osteoporosis. It also ignores the possible increases in risk of ovarian cancer and
prostate cancer associated with dairy products.”

"One of the problems with the present system is that the consumer has no way to tell what is bad meat. You can't see the disease-
causing bacteria. And every package of meat that's sold in the United States of America has a seal on it that says, 'Inspected and
approved, United States Department of Agriculture.' The seal is there. You expect it to be clean and safe, and the truth is that it's not."

The American Dietetic Association states that vegetarians have “lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; … lower blood
cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer” and that
vegetarians are less likely than meat-eaters to be obese.

"At least 2 million people were poisoned last year by salmonella bacteria and up to 2,000 died, scientists at the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control estimate. And at least twice as many people were poisoned by little-known bacteria called campylobacter, they
believe. In both groups, up to half got sick eating chicken."

"Would you go out to a pasture with a chicken, cut him up, then drop him into a fresh manure pile and eat him? That's what the
product is like coming from chicken plants today."  Pat Godrey, 44, an inspector at Tyson's Springdale, Ark., plant.

PER THE HARVARD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH: "Limit red meat—and avoid processed meat. Research suggests that people who
eat more than 18 ounces a week of red meat have a higher risk of colon cancer. So make red meat—beef, pork, lamb—only an
occasional part of your diet, if you eat it at all. And skip the processed stuff—bacon, hot dogs, and deli meats—since that's also been
    linked to higher cancer risk."

" A recent shift to meat-heavy diets has been linked to increases in obesity, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and colorectal
cancer. U.S. and World Health Organization researchers have announced similar findings for other parts of the world." (Time.com)

"A plant-based diet is the best diet for kids, too: Studies have shown that vegetarian kids grow taller and have higher IQs than their
classmates, and they are at a reduced risk for heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases in the long run." (Charles Attwood,
    M.D., Dr. Attwood's Low-Fat Prescription for Kids, New York: Penguin Books, 1995, p. 84. and Robbins, p. 85.)

"Vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters." (Robbins, p. 14.)

"For the appetizer: San Antonio Bay oysters polluted with Noroviruses. For the main course: grilled beef infected with E. coli from
contaminated tenderizing needles; chicken with Campylobacter or imported ham with Listeria monocytogenes. Then there's a side dish
of stuffing loaded with salmonella-contaminated hazelnuts. And for those watching their weight: a popular nutritional drink fouled with
    the food poison Bacillus cereus."

"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan
diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-
planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy,
childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes."

"The study of more than 500,000 middle-aged and elderly Americans found that those who consumed about four ounces of red meat a
day (the equivalent of about a small hamburger) were more than 30 percent more likely to die during the 10 years they were followed,
mostly from heart disease and cancer. Sausage, cold cuts and other processed meats also increased the risk."

The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it can
cause anemia, allergies, and insulin-dependent diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease, America's
    number one cause of death.

"...tracing the story of her burger, through interviews and government and corporate records obtained by The New York Times, shows why eating ground beef is still a gamble.
Neither the system meant to make the meat safe, nor the meat itself, is what consumers have been led to believe."
    The New York Times

"[A] healthy vegan diet gives an important advantage over a meaty diet, which is why many Olympic and professional athletes are vegetarians...A healthy vegan diet will give you
the strength and stamina you need to leave those sluggish meat-eaters in the dust."  Neal Barnard, M.D.
