AMAZON VS. OVERSTOCK
WHICH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

THE CHOICE IS EASY IF YOU CARE ABOUT ANIMALS!

REASONS TO AVOID BUYING ANYTHING FROM AMAZON:

REASON 1: AMAZON SELLS FUR

Animal fur is one of the cruelest and most unnecessary industries there is, and the industry both abuses
animals and
TORTURES animals to death for profit.

So, we wrote letters to both Amazon.com and Overstock.com. Read their replies below:

Sent to Amazon.com on 6.20.09:

To Whom It Concerns:

We recently read an article about Overstock.com, and their fur-free policy. We are very animal-friendly
and compassion-friendly people, so we went to your site immediately and searched “fur coats.” We were
saddened by the results, and we were disappointed in ourselves that we had not researched this before.
Over the years we have bought a lot through your website and your service has been satisfactory.
However, it is with regret that we inform you we will no longer buy from your site. Fur farming is one of
the cruelest and most pointless industries in existence, and we are so sad that your executives care more
about revenue than compassion and humanity. Please stop selling any and all products made with animal
fur.

Their reply:

Hello from Amazon.com.

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com with your concerns about the sale of products that include animal
fur. I understand that you feel very strongly about this issue.

As a retailer, our goal is to provide customers with the broadest selection possible so they can find,
discover, and buy any item they might be seeking.  As a result, the selection offered on our website
includes a wide spectrum of products, some of which people may find objectionable.

I have forwarded your concern and feedback to our appropriate department.

We value all feedback from our customers, and I thank you again for taking the time to send us your
comments about this issue. Although we won't be able to comment further on this topic, we hope you'll
allow us to continue to serve you.

WE ALSO WROTE TO OVERSTOCK TO CONFIRM THEIR FUR-FREE
POLICY. THEIR REPLY WAS AS FOLLOWS:

Thank you for contacting Overstock.com regarding the items we sell on our site. I appreciate the
opportunity to assist you today.

Please be assured that we sell no fur items on Overstock.com. We have many faux fur items, but be
assured that they are 100% artificial. Our CEO, Patrick Byrne is a strong anti-fur advocate and has
removed all fur related items from our site in early 2008.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance on this or any other issue. I hope you will visit us
soon for great savings on name-brand products.

SUPPORT OVERSTOCK.COM AND THEIR STRONG POLICY OF COMPASSION & HUMANITY!

    LIFE ON A FUR-FARM:
"To cut costs, fur farmers pack animals into small cages, preventing them from taking more than a few steps back
and forth. This crowding and confinement is especially distressing to minks—solitary animals who may occupy up to
2,500 acres of wetland habitat in the wild. The anguish and frustration of life in a cage leads minks to self-mutilate—
biting at their skin, tails, and feet—and frantically pace and circle endlessly. Zoologists at Oxford University who
studied captive minks found that despite generations of being bred for fur, minks have not been domesticated and
suffer greatly in captivity, especially if they are not given the opportunity to swim. Foxes, raccoons, and other animals
suffer just as much and have been found to cannibalize their cagemates in response to their crowded confinement."

REASON 2: AMAZON CLEARLY SUPPORTS ANIMALS SUFFERING & CRUELTY

(Not only are they selling the stuff, they have been vehemently defending their right to do so!!!)

Then, on top of all else, we happen to see ThePetitionSite.com, and noted as of October 5,
    2009 a campaign against...guess who?
Foie gras is horrific and cruel, without exception!

TELL AMAZON.COM YOU WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM UNTIL THEY STOP
    SELLING INHUMANE PRODUCTS!

Until the campaigns are over, you can also go to HSUS.org & ThePetitionSite.com to sign the campaigns.

ALSO, PLEASE SEND A LETTER TO OVERSTOCK.COM THANKING THEM
    FOR THEIR FUR-FREE POLICY!

IT MATTERS WHO YOU BUY FROM - YOUR CHOICES CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!

The following was excerpted from ThePetitionSite.com:

Please stop selling Foie Gras at Amazon.com!
Target:Jeff Bezos, Founder & CEO, Amazon.com Inc..Sponsored by: Robert Anderson.
At the present time there are 50 items of Foie Gras on your website for sale. "Birds raised for this
gourmet cruelty are force-fed enormous quantities of food through a long metal pipe 3 times a day.
This process of deliberate & painful overfeeding continues for up to a month, by which time the birds
livers have swelled up to 12 times their healthy size & sometimes, their stomachs literally explode."
HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE US CAMPAIGN AS OF OCTOBER 5, 2009
    (TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THEIR SITE):

Amazon.com's Support for Animal Fighting Takes a Hit
Amazon.com's nearly four-year, misguided battle to defend its "right" to sell materials promoting illegal
animal fighting has taken a turn against Amazon.com and in favor of animals.
The Gamecock magazine, one of Amazon.com's co-defendants in The HSUS's lawsuit compelling it to
comply with federal law prohibiting the sale of animal fighting materials, relented and settled the
lawsuit. This leaves Amazon.com alone with The Feathered Warrior magazine in challenging federal
law so it can continue to support animal fighters.
    Fight Back!
Let Amazon.com CEO Jeffrey Bezos know that now is the time for him to abandon his support of
animal fighting thugs, comply with federal law, and stop selling animal fighting paraphernalia on
    Amazon.com!
In foie gras factory farms, workers are pushed
to force-feed birds as quickly as possible.
This bird's beak was likely broken when a
pipe was forcefully shoved down his throat.
This bird, a victim of force-feeding
by the foie gras industry, choked to
death on his own vomit.
